Frequently Asked Questions
Choosing the right FENTO knee protection
What makes FENTO knee protection ergonomic?
FENTO knee protectors feature a unique ergonomic wedge that distributes pressure more evenly across the knee, lower leg, and shin. This reduces concentrated pressure on the kneecap and supports a more comfortable kneeling position, especially when working on your knees for extended periods.
Which FENTO knee pads are right for me?
The right FENTO knee protection depends on your work, how often you kneel and whether you prefer wearable knee pads, inserts for work trousers or a separate kneeling board.
- FENTO ORIGINAL: Our all-round model, versatile ergonomic knee pads for everyday professional use.
- FENTO MAX: longer-length knee protectors offering extended support and comfort during intensive or prolonged kneeling. Ultimate protection and comfort for intensive usage
- FENTO ROOFER: ergonomic knee protection developed specifically for roofers. Currently available only in the USA and Canada.
- FENTO HOME: comfortable knee pads for gardening, DIY and jobs around the home.
- FENTO POCKET: knee pad inserts designed to fit inside the knee pockets of work trousers.
- FENTO POCKET M2: heavy-duty ergonomic kneepad inserts fit for maximum protection and designed to fit most work trousers.
- FENTO BOARD: ergonomic kneeling board for working comfortably without wearing knee pads or inserts.
- FENTO BOARD M2: Proud winner of two prestigious design awards, this kneeling board is designed for maximum protection and comfort. Its unique FENTO wedge shape ensures even pressure distribution over the knee and lower leg
What is the difference between FENTO ORIGINAL and FENTO MAX?
FENTO MAX is longer than FENTO ORIGINAL and provides additional support across the lower leg and shin. It is particularly suitable for intensive work and prolonged kneeling in trades such as tiling and flooring.
FENTO ORIGINAL is lighter and more compact, making it a versatile choice for everyday professional use and jobs that require more freedom of movement.
What are the best FENTO knee pads for prolonged kneeling?
FENTO MAX is designed for intensive use and extended periods of kneeling. Its longer shape provides additional support across the lower leg and shin.
For work where you regularly move between kneeling and standing, the lighter and more compact FENTO ORIGINAL may be more suitable. The best choice depends on your work and personal preference.
Can I use FENTO knee pads at home?
Yes. FENTO HOME and FENTO ORIGINAL are designed specifically for gardening, DIY projects and other jobs in and around the home. Professionals who work on their knees frequently may prefer the additional durability and support of FENTO ORIGINAL or FENTO MAX.
Fit and comfort
How should FENTO knee protectors fit?
Your knee should sit comfortably in the centre of the knee protector, while the ergonomic wedge supports the lower leg. The knee pad should remain securely in place without pinching, sliding or restricting your movement.
How should I adjust the straps on my FENTO knee pads?
Adjust the straps so the knee protectors remain securely in place without causing discomfort. The straps should not pinch behind the knees and should not be overtightened. FENTO’s wide straps are designed to reduce pressure and provide a comfortable fit while working.
Can FENTO knee protectors help with existing knee or back pain?
FENTO knee protectors distribute pressure more evenly across the knee and lower leg, helping to reduce strain while kneeling. However, FENTO products are not medical devices and should not be used as a substitute for professional medical advice. If you experience persistent knee or back pain, consult a qualified healthcare professional.
Cleaning, maintenance and replacement parts
How do I clean my FENTO knee pads?
Most FENTO knee protectors can be cleaned regularly using a damp cloth. Cleaning instructions can vary between products, so always check the care information on the relevant product page. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents or solvents, as these could damage the materials.
Are FENTO knee pads waterproof?
Water resistance varies between FENTO products. For example, FENTO ORIGINAL has a water-repellent outer layer, while FENTO BOARD M2 has a waterproof top layer. Check the specifications on the relevant product page to make sure the knee protection is suitable for your working conditions.
Can I replace worn straps or inlays?
Yes. Replacement straps and inlays are available for selected FENTO knee protectors. Replacing worn components helps extend the lifespan of your knee pads while maintaining their comfort, fit and performance.
How long do FENTO knee protectors last?
The lifespan of FENTO knee protection depends on how frequently it is used, the surfaces you work on and how well it is maintained.
Inspect your knee pads regularly for worn straps, damaged inlays, cracks or other visible signs of wear. Replace damaged components or the complete knee protector when it no longer provides the correct fit, comfort or protection.
Safety and certification
Are FENTO knee protectors EN 14404 certified?
The classification and performance level vary by product. You can find the relevant certification on each product page, while declarations of conformity and compliance documents are available in the download section of the FENTO website.
What do Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3 knee protection mean?
Under the EN 14404 standard, knee protection is classified according to how it is worn or used:
- Type 1: independent knee protectors attached around the leg, such as FENTO ORIGINAL, FENTO MAX and FENTO HOME.
- Type 2: knee pad inserts placed inside or attached to work trousers, such as FENTO POCKET and FENTO POCKET M2.
- Type 3: separate kneeling boards or mats placed on the working surface, such as FENTO BOARD and FENTO BOARD M2.
What do the EN 14404 protection levels mean?
EN 14404 classifies knee protectors according to their resistance to penetration:
Level 0: Knee protectors providing no protection against penetration and with a force distribution less than 30 N when tested on a flat, even surface.
Level 1: Knee protectors providing protection against penetration at a force of at least 100 N and with a force distribution less than 30 N when tested on a flat, even surface.
Level 1U: Knee protectors providing protection against penetration at a force of at least 100 N and a force distribution less than 30 N when tested on an uneven surface.
Level 2: Knee protectors providing protection against penetration at a force of at least 250 N and with a force distribution less than 30 N when tested on an uneven surface.
During penetration testing, the inside of the knee protector must not deflect by more than 5 mm. The protection level varies between FENTO products. Always check the specifications on the relevant product page to choose the right knee protection for your working environment.
